FIND A THERAPIST

Finding a therapist who is a good fit can be difficult and daunting. Consider these characteristics before committing to a mental health professional:

  1. Degree and License: Different degrees imply different types and lengths of training. Are you interested in seeing a social worker? Mental health counselor? Maybe a psychologist with a Ph.D.? or a Psy.D.?
  2. Age and Gender: Whether we realize it or not, many of us hold biases toward individuals of certain ages or genders. It’s important to consider who you feel most comfortable and safe talking to.
  3. Modalities and Specialities: Look into what type of therapy would work best for you. Some are organized with weekly homework, some are more in-vivo (real-life/hands-on), and others are more flexible. Your therapist’s primary modalities and specialty areas will greatly influence your therapeutic experience.
  4. Personality and Identity: Although it’s hard to gauge a therapist’s personality at the very beginning, it can help to determine whether you’d mesh better with someone who’s more laid-back, structured, humorous, outgoing, professional, etc. How about a therapist who is a part of the LGBT+ community? Or someone who infuses religious aspects? Schedule a consultation to see if it’d be a good fit before committing to weekly sessions!

ABOUT ME

Hi and Welcome!

I’m so happy you’ve made it to my page! The intention behind everything I put online is to build an accepting and uplifting community, used for mental health education and advocacy. Millions of people around the world struggle with their mental health, however, society’s view toward it is still not where it should be. A lot of judgment, stigma, and feelings of isolation accompany mental health struggles, and it is my mission as a psychology student and training therapist to do what I can to normalize the experiences of so many people. I promise, you are never alone.

In Spring 2024, I graduated with master’s degree in Clinical Psychology in North Carolina and am beginning my doctorate of psychology degree in Florida. I’m so blessed to have had amazing experiences in research, the classroom, and as a psychologist intern; my time with my mentors, colleagues, and clients continue to fuel my passion for this important work!
